As you can see, Amazon has begun tagging video games with a "recommended age", based on their content. As you can also see, the age range tops out at 20. The company provides a similar service for the items listed in their Toys and Games department.

In other words, Amazon believes that video games are toys and that people over the age of 20 shouldn't be interested in them. What a joke!

PC Gamers worldwide are gearing up for a potential boycott of Modern Warfare 2 after the announced price hike by Activision. At the time of this news posting, almost 68% of respondents say that they will not support the newer, higher price. Most say that Activision's excuse about the weakness of world currency is not to blame, and they refuse to pay the higher price. Some however do agree with the decision and say the additional $10 or $15 will not deter them from purchasing the game, while others say that they will follow their standard purchasing pattern and buy the game when retailers sell it for a discount."

The maker of an upcoming video game starring Jack Black has accused gaming giant Activision in a lawsuit of trying to kill the project to preserve its popular "Guitar Hero" franchise.

The allegations were made in a countersuit filed last week by San Francisco-based Double Fine Productions against Activision Entertainment Inc., which sued the gamemaker in June. Activision's suit aimed to stop release of "Brutal Legend" by rival firm Electronic Arts.

"Brutal Legend" is scheduled for release in October. It features Black as a heavy-metal roadie transported to a mythical ancient world to fight evil.

A hearing is scheduled July 30 on a motion by Activision to block the game's release.

Double Fine's countersuit contends Activision's lawsuit was filed to hurt the company and the game, and that it was involved in unlawful business practices and a conspiracy to protect "Guitar Hero" sales.

Activision's "purpose is not only to cancel 'Brutal Legend,' but to kill it completely so that 'Guitar Hero' would not have to face the competition," the lawsuit claims.

LittleBigPlanet players have uploaded one million levels since release and have been played 244 million times. According to Media Molecule, a new level was published every 21 seconds since launch, and it would take around five years, playing 24 hours a day, to play through all levels. WOW! Famitsu is reporting that Dragon Quest IX has sold over 2.3 million units in its first 48 hours on sale in Japan. The game was released over the weekend. The title appears to have beaten the launch of its predecessor: Dragon Quest VIII sold 2,237,000 units in its opening 48 hours in 2004.

The US gossip writer who was terminated after reviewing an illegal copy of X-Men Origins: Wolverine hit back at his former employer yesterday, hitting Fox News and its parent company News Corp with a $5m claim for damages. For good terms, the lawsuit accuses Fox of "wilful, reckless, as well as intentional and malicious" defamation. Wow, who would've known. Back in 1991, Jeffrey Tenenbaum and Hochstein came up with the idea of communicating while playing the same video game live in different locations. They patented the technology for doing so in 1994. In 2002, Microsoft released Xbox Live, a gaming option that also allows players to communicate while playing the same game. Sony also released similar capabilities for PlayStation 2. but settled its suit in April 2009, leaving Microsoft as the only remaining defendant. 2004, Hochstein, Tenenbaum and Harold Milton, Jr. (an assignee of the patent) brought a patent infringement suit against Microsoft and Sony alleging that the voice and data communications technology used in the gaming systems infringed on the patent claims. Wii HD rumors aren’t anything new, especially considering the heavy speculation which popped up last year. But in spite of the fact that Nintendo supposedly ended the gossip only a few weeks ago, the rumors have reappeared and are back in full throttle. Wedbush-Morgan’s Michael Pachter, in his “Money for Nothing, How Ancillary Revenues Can Extend the Console Cycle” report, shared his beliefs that a new iteration of the Wii could be on the way - Wii Plus HD - and might even be in stores by the end of 2010.

“We expect Nintendo to sustain their competitive advantage by introducing a high definition version of the Wii, perhaps as early as the end of 2010, in order to convert its large installed base into true ‘next-generation’ households.”

But that’s not all. Controversially, Pachter went on to say that Wii Plus HD would enable developers to create games with graphics more equal to that of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. PlayStation 2's use the emotion engine as a processor, which was removed from PS3s to save money. This killed off PS2 backwards compatibility, but Sony has a new software solution.

A patent filed by Sony has a method for the cell processor to emulate the emotion engine which can bring PS2 backwards compatibility to all PS3s.
